eau terme avène lip balm spf 30 Summary of the ingredients Highlights Key ingredients Other ingredients Ski through Name ingredient that makes Go... Com. ID-Rating , Goodie Avene eau thermale avène lip balm spf 30Ingredients explainedTitanium Dioxide is one of the two members of the elite sunscreen group called physical sunscreen (or inorganic solar screens if you are a scientific geek and ). Traditionally, UV filters are classified as chemical or physical. The big difference is assumed that chemical agents absorb UV light while physical agents reflect it as a lot of mini umbrellas above the skin. Although this categorization is easy and logical it turns out that it is not true. A recent 2016 study shows that inorganic sunscreens operate mainly by absorption, as well as chemical filters, and only a little by reflection (which reflect light in the visible spectrum, but mostly absorb in the UV spectrum). However, it doesn't matter if it reflects or absorbs, Titanium Dioxide is a quite impressive solar screen agent for two main reasons: it gives a wide spectrum coverage and is highly stable. Its protection is very good between 290 - 350 nm ( UVB and UVA II), and less good at 350-400 nm (UVA I) range. Regular-sized titanium dioxide also has a large safety profile, not irritating and is quite free from any health concerns (such as ). The disadvantage of Titanium Dioxide is that it is not cosmetically elegant, which means it is a white disaster, "incapable". Sunscreens containing titanium dioxide are often difficult to spread on the skin and leave a disturbing whitening dye. The cosmetic industry is of course really trying to solve this problem and the best solution so far is using nanoparticles. Nano-sized particles, which are very codose, improve divisibility and reduce the white dye a lot, but unfortunately, also introduces new health concerns. The main concern with nanoparticles is that they are so small that they are absorbed in the skin more than we want them (it should remain on the surface of the skin). Once absorbed they could form unwanted complexes with proteins and could promote the formation of the free radicals of evil. But don't panic, these are concerns under investigation. A 2009 review article on the safety of nanoparticles summarizes this, "to date, in-living and in-vitro studies have not shown percutaneous penetration of nanosized particles in the solar protectors of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide." The English translation is, so far, it seems that the sunscreens with nanoparticles remain on the surface of the skin where they should be. All in all, Titanium Dioxide is a famous sunscreen agent and for good reason, gives wide UV spectrum protection (best in UVB and UVA II), is highly stable, and has a good safety profile. It is definitely one of the best UV agents we have today, especially in the United States where they are not (at the same time) approved. We still have no description of this ingredient. Old water, Aka H2O. The most common ingredient of skin care for all. It can usually be found in the first place of the ingredient list, which means it is the largest thing of all the things that make up the product. It is mainly a solvent for ingredients that do not like to dissolve in oils but rather in water. Once inside the skin, it hydrates, but not from the outside - put pure water on the skin (aylo long baths!) is drying. One more thing: the water used in cosmetics is purified and deionized (means almost all mineral ions within it are eliminated). Thus, products can stay more stable over time. It is one of the most used thickeners and emulsion stabilizers. If the product is too rancid, a bit of xanthan rubber will make it more gel-like. Used alone, it can make the formula sticky and a good team player, so it is usually combined with other thickeners and so-called reology modifiers (suitable inputs that adjust the flow and thus the feeling of the formula). The typical level of use of Xantha Gum is below 1%, usually it is in the 0.1-0.5% range. Btw, Xanthan gum is all natural, a chain of sugar molecules (polysaccharide) produced from individual sugar molecules (and ) through fermentation. It is approved by Ecocert and also used in the food industry (E415). You may also want to take a look at... What are you doing? Silence What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing?
